Can midi cables transmit mementary, amp type switches?

So, assume i have a rack unit that has the following TRS inputs

1) Rhythm Tap
2) Tap Tempo
3) Mute (tuner)
4)Bypass FX
5)Bypass Reverb

and assume I have 2 boxes...one on the floor with 5 switches, and one in the rack which has a distribution to the appropriate jacks.

Can a Standard 5 pin Midi cable transmit this data? They would all be standard momentary switches....

So will CAT5 (ethernet type) cables, and are easier to find replacements for, at 5pm in Wichita.  I like that Line 6 uses them rather than some special proprietary thing you'd have to buy from them.

What 99% of people use as a midi cable, is actually a 5 pin din cable, with all pins connected.
Most cheap 'midi' cables are like this.
