SA/NE 571 versus 572

Howdy Chaps, I'm going to do some delay boxes, the AD3208 and the PT2399, and both call for the 571's before and after but I've got a bunch of 572's. On small bear it says that the 572 is more flexible than the 571 but has no internal op amp. So the basic question is do I go and get some 571's or can I use the 572's without too much modification?

I've also got a few 570's and I'm wondering why I got those. Any ideas?

572's can't be easily subbed for 570/71s, and vice versa.  572s permit independent adjustment of attack and decay times, though in the applications you've indicated, that really has no bearing on quality of performance.

Thankyou Marks, I suppose I might have some exotic compressor schematic somewhere, I haven't been doing this for a few years, that requires 570's and something else that requires 572's so I guess I'll search out some data sheets to get me going.

There was a project/schematic in Polyphony some 25 years back called the "Penultimate Compressor".  It used a 572, but also used band-splitting to allocate highs and lows to different halves of the 572 for a smoother sound.  I thought I might have a scan of it, but a quick look through my hard drive says no.  I'll keep an eye open for it, though.

I think that might be the one I'm thinking of because that sort of recording gear is part of my schedule. I'm going to haul out my own boxes of pages, that have been in hiding and hopefully haven't been found by the snails, later today and I think I'll find something very similar. That would explain why I have so many 572's.
