Had an Idea although Im not building at this time.... here goes....

Could the Joe Gagan input blend control be used as a mid control on a tube screamer.. say a 10k pot with a .047uf (stock) cap and a 1.0 uf (considered full spectrum of the a guitar pickup on the article fat tube screamer)  middle lug connected on one input of the cap position and the other two ends of the caps tied together and put in the other hole. Would this effectively go between each value for normal mids and almost no mids?............. just a thought I figured I would share. If someone trys this let me know how it works, if i ever start building again I may use it if its useful.

Hope everyone is well around here, later.

yeah, at least that sounds like a cap blend arrangement, http://generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/ezface_blend_cap.jpg
basically, you add a variable resistance in series with a largish cap, and tune the resistance from 100k to 0k... so the bigger cap is out of the circuit at high resistance and in parallel and thus added to the smallish cap its in parallel with. kind of a 'variable cap' setup.
nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

Increasing that cap will only bring back bass. It could be useful, but it would be a bass control, not a mid control. Testing in LTSpice suggests that a 100k log pot and a 1uF cap are best.

LOOKS like the mid notch filter is a cap blend with a resistor to ground to me and different caps selections...... would this be implemented in the same position as the typical .047 uf in the screamer?

ok a 100ak with .047 on one end and a 1 uf on the other. ............. stock cap to 1 uf. or would the values represented in the mid notch filter be more suitable.

Paul C's Tim and Timmy pedal use this control, using a 50k pot and a 1uf cap, but as CynicalMan stated, it just brings back bass.  Its different from just increasing the size of the .047uf cap though.  If forms a shelf filter, which brings back an even amount of all the frequencies below the original HPF.

Google etc or look in schematics (the link at the top of this web site) for Super Tube Screamer

thanks gus but Im already ahead of ya.

what i did to give the TS some control over the mids is to change the tone control section completely. I removed the original control then insert an AMZ Presence Control between opamp 1's output resistor and opamp 2's input (with a DC blocking cap before the bias resistor junction. then i changed opamp 2 into a recover stage. I changed the values of the AMZ Pressence Control to move the mid notch to around 700Hz.
