Tonepad Small Stone, Piedrita, worked then didn't

The Iron Chef

Hello all.  I recently finished the Tonepad clone of the Small Stone, Piedrita.  http://www.tonepad.com/project.asp?id=11
I etched my own board with press 'n peel and  ferric chloride. The board was populated with quality components and RCA 3080e ic's that I had on hand. All other components were installed as per the plan.  11 2n5088's and 3 5087's. The effect did work very well, for a day or two :)  Now, revisiting it a week later it is not working anymore :(  I dont know what happened. When he effect is "in" it sounds just like it does in bypass.  (no effect). The color switch has a small increase on volume.

So I need help in de-bugging this effect.  I probed all the pins in the 5 ic's and 14 transistors. I powered the circuit with a regulated power supply at 9.00 volts for this test. At almost all the pins (ic, transistor) the voltage fluctuated and I have tried to show the range. I thought that was a little weird.

I am still very much a beginner.
Thanks in advance

-Keith

I build stuff everyday.

SISKO

Well I can see these bridges

And seeing your voltages i can see that you need to replace Q8, Q7 and IC4. If you dont have this three compoments at hand, you may change first Q8 and see if it works, then Q7 and see and then Ic4.

I hope it helps ;)

Thank you Sisko,
My Small Stone is working again! It was those 2 solder bridges that were the problem.  :icon_redface:  All the component are OK.  Thanks to Francisco Pena and Tonepad for bringing this circuit to the masses.

I can't see the solder bridges referred to (we're blocked from accessing a number of image archiving sites here at work), but can see the copper-side image Iron Chef posted initially.  While it is not necessary for electronic functionality, I frequently recommend use of some sort of flux remover to folks whose building skills have not yet reached their zenith, or simply to those having difficulty debugging a board (personally, I use methyl hydrate and cotton swabs - works for me).  I often find the flux between adjacent solder joints can interfere with visual inspection for crack, bridges, and cold joints.  Though not in this case, apparently, it can also make it difficult for other forum members to assist in trubleshooting what is otherwise a nice clear image of a PCB.
