hi im planning on building the pepper shredder, using the fender tone stack found here http://amps.zugster.net/articles/tone-stacks#Moonlight
i was wondering if it's ok to use 12ax7 tubes and a 15v and 18v power supply

Renegadrian

mmm, dunno...I know you should provide the tube 12v, else I don't think that the ax7 will work so well in starved condition...But you could try, who knows...
I built one with a verified vero layout I made, works ok with au7 but a terrible hiss is always coming out...Still trying unsuccessfully to get rid of it...
Done an' workin'=Too many to mention - Tube addict!

The Pepper Shredder was designed for 12u7 tubes, even lower gain than the 12au7 tubes we use for our Valvecasters.

12ax7 tubes have been reported to sound bad in Valvecasters, it might be the same with Pepper Shredders - maybe you should just try it, after all the tubes are socketed, so you can always replace them with others.

A couple of people around here have already built the PS, maybe they could benefit the community by experimenting with different tubes and reporting back (hint hint Renegadrian and Jimmy H !!)

As for voltages, I would imagine it would benefit from higher voltage > more gain/headroom. Make sure you give the heaters only 12 volts though.

hehe ill try with the 12ax7 and ill make the tonestack switchable to see if there is significant gain loss... hopefully 12ax7 works well... thats all i have ryt now
wat other project uses 12ax7?
