Hey  all I built a GREEN RINGER today and it doesnt work, it will pas a signal but I do not hear any of the octave. I got the pcb from john lyons so I really dont know if I wired it right. I have to go to work right now so I will get more info later, any tips as to where to start looking would be great.

Just curious. Have you read "Debugging thread: What to do when it doesn't work" ?

Yea I have, I like I said I want some tips on what to do first other than getting so mad and blowing it up, I will get  more info late as I am just heading out to work

I have to tell you that "what to do when it doesn't work" -*is*- my personal collection of tips that I came up with for where to start, over decades of debugging.

First is to look for obvious physical damage.
Next, verify the power supply is good and correct all the way to the parts on the board.
Next verify the DC power conditions on each active device.

When you have taken those three steps (and the hundreds of sub steps they imply) you almost always know what's wrong with the pedal.  It's really very simple, and much easier to remember than "on this one, look at the diodes first; and after that check C7, then R5, then..." because it works on every circuit.

On a side note, octave-up effects sometimes are not that obvious. You can usually hearthem better with the neck pickup, tone rolled all the way back. In the case of the Green Ringer, you can also know whether it's working if it sounds like crap when you play many strings at the same time. Sounds like cars crashing or something. I like it at times.  :icon_cool:
...collectors together and emitter to base? You're such a darling...

What he said...also try playing around the 10th to 12th fret....seems more obvious there.
As a side note, has anyone ever tried to "tune" one of these so the effect is stronger at different frequencies?
Or is it just the nature of the beast?
Guess I'll have to experiment.
