well i decided today i would gather up all the effects pedals and give them a clean inside and out.....
i never realised how much dirt and dust actually gets trapped in them....

well i opened up my DS-1... looks like it is modded....
but that one is working alright.... had to play with the knobs for a bit before it decided to work...

opened up my tube screamer next....
had to tighten up the pots and input/output plugs...
it also looks to be modded.....

well next i got to opening up my analogue delay....
this pedal is so beat up....
had to tighten up all the pots and inputs...
and had to fix the pedal part... the hole in the end where the screw goes, had snapped off....
cleaned it all out... had a peak inside... looked awful....
not sure if it is modded or if someone has just used a few bits of crap wire to connect the circuit board to the (repeat rate) pot...

the LED doesnt work.... but the pedal was working....
now it turns on but wont turn off.....
i think it was number 13 on the circuit board... there is a bare wire... it doesnt attatch to anything  :icon_confused:

im only new to the pedal world.....
dont have much experience

just wondering if anyone can give me some help?
or tell me where i could get these looked at in the sydney area?
thanks

it's only the delay you need help with, right? first, if you could tell us the make/model of it it would help a good bit. also it would help a lot if you posted pictures. there is a good chance that at least a few people here have had the same problem. rylan

yea just the delay i guess
its a boss delay  DM-1
has a maroon/puple case...
3 knobs, repeat rate/echo/intensity

no point really posting pics.... well i dont see a point...
they will just be showing you the box...

all the problems are inside it
LED not working
and it wont turn off... (switch problem maybe.... or grounding issue...)

where is the ground in boss pedals?
i cant seem to see it touching the case in any place....

Hiya,

Is there anywhere 'obvious' the wire should go?

I'd look for a blob of solder on the underside of the board with no corresponding component for a start.

Check on the back of the switch too - not just the main board...

Now that you've tightened all the pots up, does the delay pedal work if you remove it from the case?
If something's shorting on the case, that'll tell you.

If the pedal worked before you tightened everything, could well be that *something* has shifted slightly and is shorting.

What happens if you touch the bare wire to the back of one of the pots?

Good luck!  I used to have a DM2 - same colour case, just a later version of this box, and the sound was excellent...

Happiness is a warm etchant bath.

oh it is a GREAT pedal.....
the sound is better than any other echo type effect i have tried....

its just getting old... and has had a fair bit of abuse over the years...

there doesnt seem to be a space for that wire to go....

i had a look around on the net about this problem....
found a few people having the same issues.....

apparently there is a difference between the new and old boss power supplys....
the new ones dont like to run the older pedals.....

so i will have to dig out the older power supply and give it a go...
i guess the reason it was working before was that i had it running through a 6 way daisy chain....

the newer powersupply works well with my ibanez pedals....

but my sonic distortion died a while back.... going to try and fix that one soon too

never ending repairs  :icon_cry:
