I removed the buffered output from my AMZ Minibooster and it sounds like I lost some gain because of it. Is this normal? Was having the buffered output adding a touch of gain?

Oh and also, will the Minibooster still act as a buffer because it still "boosting" the signal? Or do I really need the buffered output?

I made the  mistake of type-ing 'buffer' in response to a question about 'point b' IIRC...whatever theres a node to nothing on the bottom Jfet source follower.
  It isna' a source follower/buffer, it's something else...there was a recent thread...
All that said I don't know what really is going on with your circuit.
You were connecting the source of the bottom Jfet to something ?..I don't know there to be a buffer output there.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

It sounds like you are building the circuit on one of my pc boards?  (output buffer is an option on it)

If you remove the output buffer, it is very possible to lose some gain because of loading on the output.  The mini-booster circuit is quite sensitive to what it is driving, and when you have the buffer on the output, it is a constant high impedance load, and that allows max gain. When you remove it and let the circuit drive the signal line directly, the load will drain off some of the output.

It depends to some extent what you are driving with it. A mini-booster driving a mosfet booster wouldn't be much different with or without the buffer because the input of the mosfet is such a light load (very high impedance).  But a mini-b driving a fuzzface would be different because of the low Z inut of the FF, which would cause it to lose some gain.
