Big Question. Im placing a pretty big Mouser order here and wonder what do you guys generally use for the box shaped caps. The box shape seems newish to me as I only saw Wima use them for a while.

Who makes them with the values on top like I see? is that AVX? ANd would you go with Polystyrene, Polypropelene, or Polyester for audio signals?

Thanks. :)

I say go with the cheapest and what fits your board the best. Unless, you believe you can REALLY hear a difference. I cant.

WIMA and AVX both print values on top (on most of the ones I've seen). WIMAs are usually red caps with white lettering, and AVXs are usually yellow with black lettering. I find the lettering on the AVXs a little harder to read, but they're cheaper and there is no difference is sound (at least as far as my non-golden ears can tell).

Just another point to consider, if you wish:
Polypropylene is more easily recycled than the other types, so if you buy polyprop caps, you're more likely to help contribute to the recycling of plastics in general.  Polystyrene is the next easiest to recycle.

I'm not saying the plastic in the caps you buy will be recycled, but if you buy a certain type of plastic, it creates more demand for that type, recycled or not.  In my opinion, encouraging recycling even indirectly is a good thing.

Nice approach there earthtonesaudio - these are the things that we all need to consider.  Sometimes we forget that we vote for change when we purchase things, if only to change the economic balance of supply and demand.
