Hello all, a little while ago I designed a low-fidelity digital delay based on the PT2395.  After a fiasco with getting the enclosures drilled by pedal parts plus, I decided to liquidate teh PCBs, and so now 11 people have them.  So to  help them get them in a box, and just for the general enjoyment of the DIY community, I've posted schems and layouts online, and started a discussion about it, because >1 minds are >1.

If you have anything to contribute, I encourage you to do it there just for the sake of consolidating discussion!

Thanks for sharing!

I have this pt2955 schematic from the application note on my breadboard for months now, but haven't paid much attention to it lately. I'm sure your files will inspire me to continue playing around with this chip!

You mention 'noise' on your website. I noticed you left out the comp/expander which is often used with delays. Why did you do that? Because of the space it requires on the pcb?

No, it's mainly because the PB&J which sounds wonderful doesn't use it.  It's not really necessary.  It could help remove the noise, but I think the noise is more due to a not-so-great board layout on my part.

Hey Colin,

Awesome work on the STC! It looks close to all I'd be looking for in a delay.
How does this one stack up against a Digitech PDS series (if you ever had one to compare)
The PDS 20/20 Multiplay is still my favorite lofi/tapeish looper/delay/chorus/flanger but it does get a bit noisy around the 5 second range...

Reading up on yours makes it sound a lot like a Multiplay in functions, minus the lfo section.

Anyway, admire your willingness to share your hard work!
Cheers
It's supposed to sound that way.

I think that's the closest comparison.  It's like a multiplay, with more controls and no LFO (I always found the LFO a bit cheesy.  I also like the 20/20 but have always just used the S-TC :)

Actually, I use the lfo to get "tape-flutter" effects (i.e. speed at near max, depth barely on) with a bit of high end roll-off it sounds amazing!

Ah yes, I was referring to the more dramatic sounds :)  I love subtle delay time modulation.  The nice thing with teh S-TC is that if you put a vibrato in the FX loop, you get just that!

I should also mention that in "short" mode you can get that graininess at more reasonable echo times - in the hundreds of ms.

what's the thing with pedal parts plus?

They drilled some enclosures for me wrong, and after a time lapse, wouldn't do anything about it.
