A/B with volume controls

A friend of mine asked me to build him a A/B box, so he could switch between both inputs of his amp.
The thing is, one input is much louder than the other one, so he suggested that two volume controls, for A and B sides, could be used.
The thing is: by puttung a pot between each output jack, will there be any signal loss?
Or a buffer is recommended?

Isnt that the point of a volume control? :)

No.
The volume pots wouldn't be used to augment the signal, obviously, just to attenuate it.
The thing is, in a A/B w/ volume controls, is there signal loss due to the use of volume controls?

you would want to put a small cap across the lugs of each pot to bypass the treble, otherwise when you turn the channel down it will have the same effect as rolling off the volume on your guitar- the quieter it gets the more high end you will lose.  Something like 100k pot and 250-500pF cap should work ok, try that to start.
