Laser decals

I've only used decals a few times before and they always turned out alright. Made the image at 300 resolution, printed it at 300 dpi, dropped into luke warm water, peeled, stuck, waited, clear coated. Today I did the same thing and it didn't go as nicely. It was my first time sticking it to a darker background, but the decal was very hazy looking. It was just black text and even the black was more of a dark grey. You could easily see the outline as well.

Is this because I was putting the decal on a darker colored pedal (dark red/maroon)? I've only used decals on my silver pedals before. Should I even bother trying Ink Jet decal paper?

Dark backgrounds seldom if ever work well with decals.  Inkjet or laser.
It's just the nature of the beast.
Sorry.

Welp, at least I know it wasn't one of the many variables of the process. I really like this paint job anyways so no use in covering it.

Thanks.
