 hi chaps,

ive just started to learn electronics and a friend has sent me over a little schematic for a passive guitar filter.

turning the tone knob '1-8' works ok, but past '8' the tone goes muddy.

any sugguestions for different value res/caps appreciated. no good asking my friend as he has the same problem!

the choke has a 18mm diameter, dont know the value sorry.

thanks,
jim.

The choke looks like it's floating to me.
I'd draw that up as a schematic...Since it looks to assume connections not shown...or the tone pot is a variable resistor.
I would just experiment with 'it', probably reducing the value of the capacitors...if they're shunting HF's to ground or otherwise making a LP filter.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

thanx for the reply    :)

the choke [toroidal] is shown as those 2 red squares.

afraid you lost me with the floating bit   :icon_eek:   so just reduce the cap values then    :icon_redface:

thanks,
jim.

By floating Pete meant that it looks like the choke isn't attached to anything. The red circles are normally used to indicate that you should cut the track at that point but you've used them to show where the choke connects.

How is the tone pot connected and how does the circuit connect to your guitar or whatever?

ah right, he used the red [cut track] symbols for choke.

its just wired to the input and wiper of tone pot in guitar and earthed on top of pot, sorry...i should have explained it all a bit clearer. :icon_redface:

its just a filter/treble bleed kinda thing that works to a degree   :(

thanks,
jim.
