Exists a DIY project which sounds like Danelectro's Metal?

Hello,

I want very much to build a distortion which sounds like Danelectro's Metal (http://www.coolcattone.com/metal.html).
Do you know if exists a DIY project like that (with the same pots as it: gain/bass/mid/treble/volume...not to use an EQ after)?
It's possible to combine a LM386 or a 4049 project with a booster and a tonestack and to obtain this sound?

Thx MasaRGR...i've built 2 of that project...i like it a lot...but it's not sounding like Danelectro's Metal
