i usually mark the copper strips on vero with a sharpie marker (either for marking cut traces spots before actually cutting them or to draw the size of the board to cut it out) and sometimes i make a mistake... i tried to erase it with lighter fluid but it wouldn't work, i tried with a Mars eraser (the white rubbery eraser) and voilĂ ! the marker just goes out without damaging the copper...

Acetone and methanol do a great job on Sharpie marker.

As I never build on veroboard to a layout, I always draw a circle with a CD marker around the holes (component side) where cuts to the tracks have been made. Then I can see from component side where the cuts are  - or should be. I have made mistakes, some fatal to BBDs!!!The only time that I did some work on an approximate layout was for the ADA Flanger.
