I recently a few old 709s op amps (tin can with eight legs). Are these any good? I read it was a predecessor to the 741 (single op amp. Does anyone know the pinout? Thanks

There is a gadget that uses a 709 - and ONLY a 709.
That's the "crackle box". http://www.eam.se/kraakdoos/

Not exactly an effect box, it's a box with contacts that you touch with your fingers to make strange noises.
A friend built one for his little girl - she often had a go on it. i recommend it.

Thanks all,  I'll be making a "crackle box", what a cracker, the sound files sound like a bird-like thing. Ha
