I purchased a board for a Covington Fireplace Treble Booster about a year ago. It was already loaded so all I had to do was throw some jacks and a battery clip on and voila, treble boost!

Sounded fine but really, really loud. Sat in the "box where old effects go to die" for about 6 months.

Decided to give it another chance and put a 100KA pot on the end to tame the massive output.

Wow! Great sound and manage-able volume...here's the kicker...

For the hell of it threw a pair of back to back GE diodes on the volume pot, signal to ground.

Now it's a GREAT little overdrive...only problem is that in booster or OD modes it tends to add a lot of artifact like noise to attacks...i have to tweak the level a bit to find the sweet spot...

Anyone else use these boosters? Any idea what the tranny is?

I'll try to take a pic tonight. The markings on the transistor have been scratched out.
