BSIAB II noise...

Hi guys.
I've just noticed my BSIAB makes a lot of noise when I'm not touching the strings... as soon as I touch them it shuts up.
and I'm not speaking of feedback noise, it's a hum.
Any idea about the reason of this? could it be some environmental interference?
What more can I say? I'm using batteries and I used normal (not shielded) wire for all the connections...
Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.

it's either a ground loop in the pedal or just your pickups. bsiab is a high gain circuit so it's likely your pickups might have never been noisy before but you've noticed it now that a high gain pedal is emphasizing it.

try using shielded wires on the input and output and make sure your wires to the pots are as short as possible. do a search on the forum for shielded wire tutorial and you should get john lyon's exquisite diagram of wiring with shielded wire.

Do you use any other distortion pedals? Are they noisey as well?
If you wired it up exactly like the GG diagram it should be quiet.
U sually use shielded wiring but I built one BSIABII without sheilding and it was quiet.
Keep those wires short as barcode mentioned and you should be fine.
Check the grounds and make sure they are solid.

Post a pick and maybe we can find something in it wrong...

Hey Guys, my BSIABII is noisy too.  Just like the OP's, the main noise occurs when my hands aren't helping ground through the strings.  But it's also noisy in the background when I'm playing (much more than my other high gainers).  I've double checked every thing to make sure it's wired just like the GGG instructions and it is.  So it's got the "star grounding" that's in that layout.  And yes I've used high gain distortions  often.  Compared to my BJF Dyna Red, Keeley RAT, Mad Professor Mighty Red... it's probably 30% more noisy.

Could this not be the transistors (the FETs)?

I love... I love the tone from this pedal.  It's crazy good actually.  It's just that the extra noise keeps me from playing it as much, but I'd rather play it.  Especially for one of my bands that requires some heavier tone.
