just got my copy of RECORDING THE BEATLES and for those of you who love recording, and vintage recording at that, well you HAVE to get this book. 100 dollars is really not that much when you see how BIG and nice this book is.

BUT my only complaint is this...where are the schematics??? i want to build some of this stuff!!!!

anyone know where to get a hold of old EMI/HAYES schematics????

specifically--

the rs127 prescence box, the rs56 tone bender, the 168 zener compressor, the rs114 limiter, a REDD mixer channel or two.

anyone else here reading this??

thanks

A perfectly valid question IMHO.  As a Beatles fan I've enjoyed reading how much innovation was introduced in the studio recording arena when their albums were produced.  I don't have the book, though.

Maybe we won't get the schematics, but it would be interesting to do a collaborative effort at least to develop some sort of workalikes.
In particular, it would help if you could give some info as on which songs were used these devices, and any description of the effects that might appear in the book.

Wow, I had no idea that book even existed.  I may have to splurge.

I agree; we need some schems!  For while now I've been thinking that applying the ROG jfet/tube emu technique might be really interesting if applied to stuff like tube mixer channels and compressors.  Anybody tried this yet?

That is a good idea. You (or we) must post a question (in different topics) for each different effects that you have mentioned (and refer them to this topic).  This will surely trigger some responses for the means of answering your questions...  Might trigger some ideas also (I postulate...).  But, Hey nothing is good an off for DIY...  I've seen that but was in my "back memory".

PS: I really wonder what is the "meaning" of all these numbers...   Are there revisions, modifications...  What could be the originators and the modifications from the one that you've posted...

Well I might think that you must buy the book... ( :icon_neutral:).

At least some of them are available in commercial software form.
The rs127 for example was a passive EQ.
my guess is that the numbers don't mean anything, they would just be for bookkeeping purposes, to keep track of various custom made equipment.

Found some lovely work (with schems, parts lists, layouts!) here.

Are there any schematics for the Rutles gear at those sites?
