I just got a Proco Rat 2, and noticed that when the distortion is turned up a bit, the tone gets very.... fuzzy, like a DS-1 or something. It sounds like the opamp is clipping the signal, because the harmonics seem a bit off. Would it suffice to change the opamp to something cleaner like an NE5532? Or a TL072? I'd like to have usable tones for high gain as well, not just fuzzy, flabby stuff.

I had a Proco Vintage Rat (reissue) in the past, and I didn't notice this issue so much, but that was probably because it has less bass than the Rat 2.

The rat is designed to have lots of of op amp clipping. So you will hear a difference in what opamp you use.
