Um.. open the enclosure, snip the leads, remove the jack.

i tried that, but when i did that, it would not function ???

You need to connect the black wire that went to the sleeve of the jack to ground somewhere, the output jack on mine has a sleeve tab so you can probably use that.
Look where that wire comes from and you'll hopefully see why you need to do this :)

oh, duh i will try that right now

ok, i connected the black wire to the output sleeve, but all i get is constant hum, and when the switch is depressed it mutes it  ???

Sounds like you've done something wrong or accidentally broken another wire or something then, or possibly different versions of the DD3 are wired differently. Which one have you got? http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/DD3.htm

On mine, which is the version 3, there's a yellow wire that goes to the tip of the direct socket, that carries the direct signal. Then there's a blue wire that when you plug a jack into the direct socket gets shorted to ground which kills the dry signal from the main output. Then there's the black wire that comes from the switch. So simply disconnecting the blue and yellow wires and reconnecting the black wire to ground will let you remove the direct socket.

i have version three, i connected the black wire to the sleeve, and disconnected the blue and yellow from the board. but when it is all pluged up, power and jacks, there is no sound, just loud humming

First you need to decide which parameter you'll like to "control via external pedal". The idea is to disconnect the wires of the dry out and solder some wires from the jack to one of the pots that you want to control. Most preferred is the "delay time" knob. De-soldering the pot and wire the jack to use the "ext pedal pot" is the basic stuff.

cheers.
