Hi Dschwartz,

Ok, so what if i told you that i just finished boxing up that MXR distortion + i've been working on, in all of its entirety and it DOESNT make any buzzing noise what so ever.  Crystal clear!  I can crank my amp to whatever volumn and i hear absolutely zero noise.

It's obviously something to do with the NPN booster circuit in tandum with this power supply thats causing the problem, as CPM suggested all those posts ago.

So I might give that LM7809 idea of yours a shot, with this pedal, or any other that decides not to co-operate, now that i know for certain what the problem is.  And down the track, bin this power supply and get one that doesnt buzz.  Or find another booster pedal that doesnt buzz with this power supply...

Problem solved. ('yay!') :-)

Thanks for everyones suggestions & help.  Its greatly appreciated!

Hi Guys,

OK, Last post on this.  A bit of new information, might help someone with the same problem.

Basically, I've made 5 pedals since this NPN booster that had the humming problem.  Only 1 other pedal makes a bit of noise -> big muff pi.  MXR D+, Rat, Tube Screamer, DOD OD, don't make any noise at all, perfectly silent.  All of these pedals use IC's.  I can't give you a technical reason, but it seems that if you have a noisy power pack, you will hear the noise through pedals that only use transistors (like the big muff pi or NPN booster) and not on pedals that use IC's.  Infact, the big muff Pi has 3 transistors and less noise then the NPN booster which has one transistor.  The IC's must be filtering out all of the noise, where as the transistor only circuits only filter out some of the noise.

I've also found recently that i was getting some noise through a commercial pedal that i was using a friends house, i forget which one i was using.

So its clear.  Theres nothing wrong with my circuit.  Transistor only circuits don't filter out the noise coming from my noisy power pack (its a godlyke power-all).

If you want to remove the noise, but not buy a new powerpack, look up some ways to filter this noise out, as there are ways to do it i believe.  The only one i tried was the resistor / capacitor over the plus / minus rails of the powerjack, but this didn't fix it. (see my previous post).

Hope this helps anyone having similar problems!
