parts help

hello, i think im finally getting my dad to place an order for parts to the us... wich means ill be able to build more stuff.. i have a few projects in mind ...but since i probly wont get him to order anything again any time soon i would like some suggestions on commonly used  caps/diodes/transistors/ic's because most of those i cant get here!!!

some things im getting are tl072s, j201's, rc4558, bs170's  10nf caps, 1nf caps.. etc

venezuela...a real  bad place for any electronics hobbyist...we have a REAL hard time buying anything from foreing countries

If you have not already done so...

Since you said that it will be your Dad ordering for you - ask him what kind of budget he is going to give you. Based on that budget:

1) Create a list of projects/pedals that you want work on.
2) From your list of projects/pedals, create a summary of the components (i.e. description, value, and quantity) that you will need.
3) Always order a few extra of everything just to have lying around for that "spur of the moment" project.

For transistors, ICs, didoes, resistors, and capacitors, I think the best place to order from will probably be DigiKey.

For pots, the best place to order from will be smallbearelec.com. They also have a nice assortment of pedal fixtures like knobs, standoffs, DC jacks, etc. In addition, they have a nice assortment of "odd-ball" components used in pedals like Germanium transistors, CA3080 (for that Ross Compressor clone), photocells for that UniVibe clone, etc.

Don't forget other stuff that you may need like solder, maybe an extra soldering tip, PCB material and drill bits (if you plan on etching and drilling your own PCBs), etc.

I would guess that shipping to Venezuela is going to be expensive so keep that in mind when ordering.

After you do #1-#3, I would suggest that you post here so we can double check to make sure you did not forget anything.

Yo

  The resistor kits from Small Bear are a great thing to get if you're planning on working on a lot of different projects. All the common values are there. You can most likely put a couple in series to get any other value you need in a pinch too.
