Blending Symmetrical/Asymmetrical Clipping?

Has anyone tried using a dual-pot to mix symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping?  I've been looking for something to build with some miniature joysticks I came across, and thought about trying a germanium symmetrical/asymmetrical plus silicon symmetrical/asymmetrical setup, just for fun.  Any thoughts?

One more question: what about a dual-pot blending Germanium and Silicon clipping (both either symmetrical or asymmetrical)?

There are multiple ways of "blending".  One is to push each respective signal to the level it needs to be to produce the same degree of clipping from a pair of germanium and a pair of silicon diodes, adjust for relative level (Si will be louder) and blend that.  A second approach is to blend between alternate sets of diodes at the point where a single copy of the signal is to be clipped.

I think your best starting point is to check out some of the documents Jack Orman has posted at www.muzique.com in the lab notes or blog sections regarding "warp" controls and related documents about altering clip texture.  If only to take a step or two back and consider whcih option you like.  Trust me, there are MANY to choose from.

THAN come back and ask the question.  I'm still of the opinion that some of these suggested sonic differences will be very particular about the circumstances under which they will reveal themselves, but that's just me.  For now, figure out what generic approach to doing thinsg you might want to pursue, and we'll take it from there.
