Adding a volume pot

Am i right in thinking, to add a volume pot to a layout that doesn't have one, you just wire the out put of the board to lug 3 of the new pot and the out put becomes lug 2?

I believe you would wire the board ouput to lug 3, lug 2 would be the new output and lug 1 would go to ground.
