So I built a big muff pi using torchy's layout, and it sounds great--however, it does not quite reach unity gain with the volume pot at full blast.

Would this problem be caused by any of the following parts substitutions?

all 15k resistors were replaced by 12k (what I had on hand)
all 1uf caps were replaced by .1uf

2n5088 transistors used throughout.

Thanks :)

Parts substitutions don't look like they could be responsible for lower than unity output.
I'd go through and check transistor bias's.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

cool--I'll check out the biasing--it's a tight layout, so I didn't go there right away. Thanks for confirming my thoughts :)

Seriously?  Yes, that would make a huge difference.

edit:  I'm confused.  The schem I saw had all .1uf and a .001uf.  Can you post/link the layout please?
