Boost for fuzz

Slight variation on the old "suggestion for a boost" thread: I stuck an NPN boost infroint of a Bazz Fuss and really liked it. I'd like to hard-wire a boost in, but I want it to be (a) something with a boost range that starts at unity, and (b) something with moderate input Z (no FETs need apply). I suppose I could come up with something, but what do you'all have to say?

You could mod almost any boost to start at unity- just hardwire a resistor to the pot that controls the level.  What do you mean by moderate Input Z?  Do you mean you want higher than usual input impedance, or lower than usual?  The SHO has a high input Z even though it uses a FET (mosfet- does that count?); if you want to avoid FETS you could go the microamp route.

Hey, Mike. I should have been clearer--I meant lower Z than typically high FET (AMZ, SHO, Tillman) or opamp (microamp), something more like a LPB or Muff-boost, I guess. I know I can create a gain floor with a resistor, was just looking for something a little more, I don't know, elegant.

with the sho circuit, you have control over the input impedance.   just compare the SHO to the BOR boost, 10M input resistors vs 1M
