hi guys, i need the last box to complete my definitive pedalboard... i'm looking for a dummy-simple overdrive only with volume & drive knobs.... i tried 5 fuzzes and many more boutique and diy fx..... i was now looking for a ROG big daddy..... i'd prefer something with a relatively bright tone.... thanks

dod/MXR/Ross...tone and responce will depend on the details...like choise of opamp and diods...( I liked TL071 and AA133 )
simple build with many verified layouts

for me THE overdrive now is the Zendrive, not 2 knob overdrive, but 4. :P

I built the DOD 250 from Tonepad.  Don't how I ever managed before without it.

I second the dod250! The '77 version though. It is a really good sounding drive with all kinds of amps and pedals. I have build 2
When your life is over, will any of this STUFF really matter?

Eternity is a really nice, very simple circuit.  It's got a tone knob, but you could make that a trimmer.

I'll second the zendrive as a good suggestion

you could easily make it 3 knob by putting in a fixed resistor value for the voice control, and maybe even make the tone control a trimmer. personally I like the variation it gives

can get very bright and low part count

Design your own!  ODs are probably the easiest thing to design; because they are 'lower' gain than other distortions, it's a lot easier to control the noise issues that come up.  I tried a lot of other designs before I did up my own.  The Tube Reamer is a good starting point because it's so stripped down and dead simple.  From there you can tack on input/output buffers or gain stages, play with a multitude of tonestacks, and figure out a clipping style you prefer.  Basically I took the TR and made tweaks until I got the core sound I needed.  Then I tacked on a high impedence JFET buffer up front, and a 2 knob bmp-style tone control on the backend, with a little gain stage to make up for the loss in the tone stack.  It's my favorite OD to date.

thanks boys gonna check out something never thought last pedal would be so much difficult to find! :icon_lol:

I personally like the LDT Silver that Dav Barber provided a scematic for!  That thing beats the pants off an Tubescreamer clone out there.  Probably because it's not a Tubescreamer clone!

what the hell...  :o what about a  graace (rog) with smaller otput resistece?  :icon_lol: that could work fine!!!!!!!!!!

Bright tone?
The peppermill is a great mild overdrive that is excellently transparent.

I fully recommend it. PM me for a layout if interested.

  It's going to have boost.
Boost might make your amp OD>
IF you don't like the sound of your amp when OD'd.
Get clipping elements involved, for them to work much, and to overcome volume drops, the signal will need to be pre-boosted.
Other than that it's open territory which is filled with hidden pitfalls.
And Voicing the circuit is as important to me as what I think it is.
Breadboard, put boost of some kind in front or pick out any overdrive [that uses power supply to make the signal boosted before clipping, perhaps boosted output after clipping].
And what speakers or amps influence shouldn't be underestimated, and may be worth mentions.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
