I'm just looking at the uglyface and thinking that the 386 is required so theres enough current to drive the LED.

Why I wondering is because this http://redcircuits.com/Page94.htm might be good to drive the 7555 but would it have enough ommph to drive the LED as well?

Maybe it's simply a matter of putting the page 94 in front of the uglyface... and calling it a Page94 Uglyface!
