Hello,

I tried to search a few times and came up short... I am looking for a vero layout of a germanium PNP fuzzface. all i can find are the silicon versions like this one:

If I just switch the leads of the battery in this layout and use the Ge Transistors instead of the BC108s, will this be ok? Also I have resistors from Smallbear that match the list he sent me with the Ge trannies. but im having trouble figuring out where they go. please help me  :)

Thanks,
Paul

Flip the battery leads, flip the electros, and mind your tranny pinouts, and you should be ok.

Also, a fuzz is a good project to test your vero layout skills on (or better yet, a boost, if you're still not comfortable making layouts).

Good luck!

I think you have to just reverse Polarity and polarised capacitors to transform it in PNP version.

Q2c bias reisistor...I make that a pot for GE's, but something around 4k7 or 14k7.
Q1c bias resistor is 22k or something like 47k.
This guessing would be easier if I knew the resistor values SB suggests.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Here's a cross-reference for you:

The link you posted           Smallbear
R2                                   R3
R3                                   R5
R1                                   R4
R4                                   R6

When you look at these side by side, it will seem obvious, as the SB values given will be fairly close to the ones from the layout.

thanks everyone. yes the smallbear values were close to a few of the schem values... meaning more than one of his resistors were close to two different values on the schem. thanks very much for the conversion chart, as it were.

so then all i need to do is flip the battery, flip the elec caps and substitute those values resistors and just make sure my transitors pin out the same way as the BC108s. I think i got it!  :)

It works!

I used the silicon layout as linked above and flipped the battery and the elec caps and it works. however I have noticed that it will choke out as the notes decay if the fuzz knob is set anywhere below 12 noon. could be an old battery? (it is I have no idea how much life is in it) but with the fuzz all the way up it sounds pretty awesome!

Thanks again all for your help
