IC Interchangeability Idea

an III as it were....

Anyway if you soldered pins 8 and 7 together and 1 and 6 together couldnt you switch between a 741 and a 4558? (provided youre using a socket)

wouldn't that mean you were applying Vcc to one of the Vouts of the 4558?

yeah i suppose so...would that ruin anything? you would be using the other op amp anyway

i wouldn't think its a good idea.  i've gotten the pins wrong on op amps before and a few have smoked.  it depends on the internal connections, but in general i dont think its a good idea.

  It's pretty easy to make an opamp pin not touch the socket wiper, just bend it to the side.
  Bent back...good luck with it, I don't recommend even 1 bend/bendback per pin because they break off very easily. An 'easy' bend may survive the bend-back.
