Cheapest source for Switchcraft plugs -- in Canada?

Checking my usual sources the best I can find for Switchcraft 228 (the flat, right angle) plugs is CAD$57.05 per 10 and CAD$49.77 per 10 for the straight 280 model. That's the best price I've found so far, all from Digi-Key.

I need 18 of each type to wire up my fancy pants new programmable looper. I have to admit I kind of forgot the cost of cabling when I purchased this. Adds...well...quite a bit to the TCO. Opps.

Before I give Digi-Key another $200 I figured I'd check here. See if anyone knows a cheaper source for these jacks in Canada. I'm looking for something low profile as the spacing on the looper is pretty tight.

#228     USD $3.95 at 10 pieces
#280     USD $3.4 at 10 pieces

Pleaes check my Stock List at smallbearelec.com. I take PayPal and don't insist on shipping Fedex.

smallbearelec: I'd buy from you if I wasn't totally burnt out on getting stung by import fees. It looks cheaper on paper, but in reality the cost is almost a crap shoot. I could see that order ending up near twice the price if the CRA decides to open it at the border. Unless, of course, Switchcraft are made in the U.S.A...

tempus: Hey thanks. I didn't know Neutrik made a similar style plug to the Switchcraft straight plug. I only know their "fat" style plugs and I'm certain there's not enough clearance on the looper for those. That's my kind of price too.

The cheapest I've found are from Futurlec... half the price you've found if i remember well. Something around 1.50$/each. Futurlec are way too slow for shipping but if you're not rush you can check there. I can't access to the website actually but look in the hardware plug section...Not switchcraft tough!

I know, but the pedal i built does not boost...it just increases volume!

Hi Ian,

These are cheapies (under $2) from Honson in Toronto. Haven't had any problems with them so far other then the time it takes to wire them up.

I'll just add I've never been stung at the border on anything from Small Bear or Hoffman Amps and other small players and their plain vanilla USPS packages. Put it in a nice box with a company name splashed all over and it'll arrive at your door in the hands of an extortionist. (Digikey excepted and free shipping on orders over $200.)

Have you tried Tip Top Electronics in Winnipeg? They have great prices on lots of products (best up here for Hammond products) and list Switchcraft as a company line they carry. You might have to email or phone them to see if they have or can get the particular plugs you want. http://www.tiptopelectronics.com/  Electrosonic have the 228's but for way more then anyone else mentioned so far.

Considering the number you need and the time involved in putting patch cords  together, might it be more cost effective to just buy ready-made cords?

Dave, while you can still find them, those right-angle units are 96 cents for a pair at The Source, believe it or not.  Having just come back from Ian's, I can vouch that those plugs wouldn't fit the available space.  He needs them slender.

I've never tried them, but you could check out www.rpelectronics.com out of BC. They listed a Switchcraft straight plug at $2.72 for 10+

Denis,
Nothing witty yet ...

Okay, cross those off. Electrosonic have a Neutrik RA (NYS207) for under $2 that has a much slimmer profile.  Can't comment on the quality of these but anything else of Neutrik's i've used, i wouldn't hesitate to purchase again.

Sorry! Correction 0.50$/each...same as those in the picture above. There's some with plastic case at 0.60$

Guys: thanks for all the suggestions. I need the RA and the straight plugs. Straight at the looper, RA at the pedals -- 2 patch cables per loop. And I've got 9 loops. (10 actually but one is used for triggering channel changes on my amp)

Looks like electro-sonic or futurlec are the top choices here.

For reference here's the rear of the unit I'm trying to squeeze a ton of connections on to:

Tight for sure.

Ian, have you tried RoadRage in Mississauga?
Last I looked they had neutrik jacks and plugs at decent prices and were doing free shipping >$100

Yup. Talked to them. Nice guys, but they don't have plugs, just jacks. Actually, they offered me a Lava Cable ELC kit at a temptingly low price.

Looks like I'm going to go with Mouser. Anyone want in on the order? Split the shipping? Others in the Ottawa area? Mark is already piggybacking some stuff on this one.
