Reverse polarity adapters... I don't get it

So, if you have something with + ground (like a fuzz face or whatever you want), you can just get one of those polarity reversal adapter things from 1 spot or some other company, right? And all they do is switch around the + and - parts of the power supply to the power jack right?


How is that different from using a plastic power jack and wiring the + end to where the - end used to be and vice versa? Am I missing something?

it isn't any different.

you just have to make sure, in both cases, that you don't share that supply with any other pedal that is negative ground, or none will work.

you can't do that if you are running other negative ground pedals from the same supply source, because they are run parallel which means you are shorting ground to hot.

The cables aren't for positive ground though. They're for pedals with unconventional PSU connection polarity.

What I don't get is why would these people be marketing them with power supplies that are made to be daisy chained, like 1spot and godlyke, but you can't use them with a daisy chain? If that's true then how to people power stuff like Monsterpiece fuzz's that have positive ground.. I mean I see these polarity switcher cables recommended all the time without a word of warning like 'no daisy chaining allowed' or something.

Really? That's strange.. This link takes you to the Godlyke polarity switcher that says it can power effects with opposite polarity.. And it looks like the regular 'boss style' barrel  ???

It depends on your power supply. If you have isolated outputs (like in the case of my Pedal Power Plus), you can use one of those adapters to power a positive ground fuzz or whatever.

If you don't have isolated outputs (like with a one-spot w/ a daisy chain), then forget it. You'll have to find a separate power supply.

Yes - opposite polarity on the connector, not positive ground. So ground on the shell, +9v in the centre.

I don't see why you can't pig tail as long as the boards are the same polarity?

If all that is in concern is the pin position on the jack.
