The original circuit at circuit snippets has a direct connection between pins 5 and 6.

i just finished adding all the parts i have on hand, i jut need to order the stompswitch, 9v plug, tl072 op amp, 2n5088 transistor, pots, 25k trimmer, and a 1n4002 diode.  it is funny, at radioshack they had 1n4001 and 1n4003, but no 1n4002's!!!!!!!!!

You can probably substitute 1n4001 for a in4002.

General rule: You can always substitute a 1N400X series with a different 1N400X part as long as you stay within the absolute recommended power limits. The only disadvantage of the higher number parts (like the 1N4004/4005) is the physically larger size you're dealing with (because of the increased power handling capability). Sonically, you can't tell one from the other.

does poes pot 1 slope the left side of the wave or the right?? i dont have an oscilliscope so i  dont really know
