Mixing an effect with a clean signal

Ok, so I've been trying to figure this out for days, and I finally need to face the facts.  I need help.

I'm trying to set up the octave generator from the Shocktave in an effect that also passes the clean guitar signal.  My hope is to have two outs, one that will output either the clean and octave signal, and one that I can switch the octave signal to for a dual amp setup.  I've been trying all kinds of different circuit parts and can't seem to get it exactly right.

Basically what I need to know is, how can I isolate the clean signal, and send it to an output, while also running the signal through the effect and running it to another output.

I figure I'll need some kind of input and output buffers, and I've also been working on a boost and low pass filter network to tailor the sound to work ideally with the octave generator.

Can anyone recommend a schematic that I can study that has this kind of circuit?  Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Yes!  That definitely helps.

One other question... I'm definitely going to be using a dry signal and mixing it with the effect, but I'd rather not use a blend knob.  My preference would be to have a volume control on the effect, and just unity gain on the dry signal.  The purpose of this being that I plan to be able to switch between sending dry and effect to the same output, and dry to out 1 and effect to out 2.  So I'm thinking there's a good way to mix the two without using a blend knob, and also without effecting the dry signal... I just can't figure it out.

Any ideas?
