One: I'm building my first fuzz face, and chose this as a starting point.

To this I am adding a voltage sag knob, and a tone control. Should I add one of those "stupidly easy" tone controls, or something else? Any other tips?

Two: After that, I would like to do a Muff with an switchable octave. Tips?

The SWTC is a wonderfully simple [and doesn't load down the signal as bad as...]type tone control.
Any other tips?, just a simple adjustable HF cut knob [cap and pot at output to ground] might do it, that and a carefully chosen input cap.

That's a statement...the Muff part is easy, for Octave, you'll need...something that generates octave [Green Ringer?]...the Muff could be part of the pre- boost/distort circuit, the GR needs a boost/distort to make more octave instead of just gatey ring-octa-fuzz.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

yeah, i assume it will be a fuzz and a ringer in one box kinda thing.
