Recommend me a Silicon Power Transistor

I'm designing a small SS Class A amp w/ OT and I want to try different power transistors.
The thing works at 30v, 200mA - 300mA, that´s 6w - 9w across the power transistor.
I'm using a TIP41C, and a BD237 at 18V, but I do not like how they sound, too harsh-y.
I'm looking for a si transistor not so bright, with a freq response similar to an AC187K or 2SD72K.
In fact a good Ge power tranny would be perfect...
I read that many commercial audio amps use 2n3055.

Suggestions?

  2n3055...worked for me.
Haven't seen a power Ge that I'd know it.
All the other power transistor types I looked at were boastin' cleans.
Biplolar and Mosfets...the mini-stereo field really sounded just great, the PS WW's eventually over heated, fun while it lasted...classic case of PS underkill.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

If you want a Ge power tranny,I saw some on Ebay pretty reasonable.
My old 40 watt Crate has the large 2n3055 trannies and I like it how it sounded when it was working.
I have the schematic for it PM me and I will send it to you.
Still on my list of stuff to fix...
I'm no EE or even a tech, just a monkey with a soldering iron that can read, and follow instructions. ;D

I'll buy a 2n3055.

I'm using a 2n3904 - tip41 home made darlington, and a 220pf from C to B to filter highs.
I have some 2n1114 Ge b=100 low leakage which I can use instead of the 2n3904...

I am interested about the impedance ratio of a single-ended solid state amp OT. I have no clue what it should be.
What kind of transformer are you using as OT? Primary wire must be rather thick at 300 mA. Is it like 35 VA mains current transformer, if using one as OT?

(Sorry i noticed this was off-topic! I would have recommended 2N3055 too!)

Here is one Selmer using 2N3055. But no information about OT impedance or turns ratio.

I wired the OT this way:

There is a sound clip in my gallery.

Thank you! Great story and clever solutions to technical problems. Fun to read! I listened the sound clip. Distortion was organic and quite plexi-Marshally! Excellent rhythm guitar tone.
There is something weirdly fascinating about class A solid state amps.
Rewinding wall wart transformers to OT:s seem to be the way to go.
Thank you once again. Your OT threads really saved my day!

Thanks for the Selmer schem and for your words.
