Fading LEDs?

I'd like to do something a little different on my next build. I'd like my power LED to fade on/off. I've done a little googling and seems all I'm finding are some seemingly over complicated circuits for a simple fade on/off.  I'd like it of do this slow blink all the while on/off/on/off etc... while power applied.
Anyone?

Scroll for "fading red eyes"

I think I used TLC272 opamps or something

and FYI, that bowden circuit is THE simplest you are going to find to do what you are talking about.

wow...ok...was hoping for something simpler like an RC circuit but...thanks. I'll bread board this up this weekend.

THANKS to you both.
