Hi!
I'm new to diy effects pedals and wondering about shielding the circuit.
Does a chassis made of steel shield the circuit as good as aluminum in aspects of noise etc.?

Thanks in advance!

I skipped the electromagnetism at college this year, but I'm pretty sure that steel shields much much better than aluminum, as it can be magnetized, as opposed to aluminum that has very little electromagnetic properties, thus it does not absorb el.magnetic waves as well as steel....

Theres also the function of ground currents which is why high end tube amps can have solid silver chassis.

Aluminium and it derivative alloys are just nice and easy to work with. Steel is dirty and copper work hardens while bronze sheet isn't so available and brass... might be nice. Zinc is also used for die cast enclosures but is a bitch worse than steel for wanting to get back to the earth.
Monkey see, monkey do.
