hi guys and gals.

had a question for you.

I used the buffer from musique that uses the TLO71 op-amp. I know this isn't the most popular buffer, but i found that I really loved the sound it imparts and wanted to use it for a clean boost.

What would be the best way to tweak the buffer to do this?

I assume it would be a pretty simple change involving tacking a pot onto the out of the buffer (100K??), but then I saw the mosfet boost, also on musique, and it seems to add the gain in a much different way than a pot at the end.

Any suggestions on how to do this??

thanx!

A buffer provides unity gain. If you put an output pot on it, then you've got a volume control which will only be able to adjust the level between unity and nothing. A passive volume control only ever attenuates.

For a booster you'd need this to be a gain stage which would require some extra components connected to the opamp. Do some Googling for 'opamp gain' to get an understanding of how the IC can be set up to do this.

Or instead of searching Google, read this and skip to the section about op-amps.  Then read the entire article.
