Can a TL72 or other opamps be used as an inverter for a MIDI thru?

You can but it's a lot easier to use something like an 74HC14, it also has the benefit of having schmitt trigger inputs which you can also do with the TL72 but it's a lot more work.

I'm basically looking for a more compact inverter - the one I am using right now is the 14 pin SN74LS14N. I don't need that many inputs/outputs - I'm just driving one MIDI thru
