Ibanez TS-9 Mods.....

I recently did a mod to my older TS-9. I brought it up to TS-808 specs, installed the More/Less mods, a "Fat mod" to take the midrange hump out, an IC socket with a JRC4558 chip and a superbright blue LED. The mod went great and the pedal sounds awesome now.

I decided to do the same mod on a TS-9 I had purchased a week earlier. Ater the mod was done, I noticed that the LED was very dim compared to the first TS-9 I modded, and when plugged in, found a hum that closely resembles a ground loop hum. When I would touch the plugs on the guitar cable, the noise went away and ound was clear.

I did the second mod identically to the first mod which went great. I have checked for solder bleeds and found none and compared the components of each of the pedals. I am currently at a loss as to what the problem could be. Can anyone shed some light onto my predicament?  ???

Have you checked all your ground connections?

Do you get the hum even when only using a battery?

Haven't tried it with he battery yet. Planned on trying that tonight. I power both pedals off seperate Voodoo Labs Pedal Power units, one in my rack and one on my pedal board. I switch the one in the rack with a Voodoo Labs GCX Switcher.

most likely:

1) jacks not firmly screwed in. Ibanez and Boss pedals often ground the jacks to the case, and therefore if the jacks are not in place and screwed tightly they won't get a firm ground

2) cold/broken solder joints on a ground point - remelt all ground solder points and make sure no wires are broken

Thanks Patrick,  I think you just fixed my Boss OD-2, I was looking for broken solder but just did not see the bad contact with the case.
