1.Bypass works fine. i get absolutely nothing when its on, a little static when i turn the knobs but nothing from the guitar
2.Name of the circuit = Ross Compressor
3.Source of the circuit (URL of schematic or project) = From general guitar gadgets
4.Any modifications to the circuit? No (other than those listed for the cap values)
5.Any parts substitutions? No
6.Positive ground to negative ground conversion? No
So i built this last summer and couldn't get it to work, so im back at it again. heres the wiring diagram from the project and then the way i wired it based on a guide from bevis audio

the wires in the second diagran are NOT connected just crossing.
ive double checked the parts and values a bunch of times. starting to think it might be a bad op-amp?
I dont have a DMM atm but last time i checked the voltages they were all fairly normal. ill work on putting them up here soon
any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Jon,

I'm pretty new at this myself, but when my first build didn't work properly, I found references to using an audio probe to debug ( I think I found it on geofex.com).  It is basically a capacitor and a guitar cable.  Cut off one end of the cable.  The hot wire of the cable goes to one leg of the cap.  The shield of the cable goes to ground.  The other leg of the cap can be used to touch any part of the circuit.  It allows you to follow the signal through the circuit.  When the signal gets to one component, but not past it, you've found at least one of the problems!

Good luck,

Jake

Ok well im building an audio probe to test my effect. Is the "hot wire" the wire in the middle of the cable and the shield is the outside wire?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Yes, the hot wire is the center wire and the shield is the outside wire.  Good Luck!
