MXR Carbon Copy - external delay control?

Okay, this may be from way out in left field...  I searched the forums but could find nothing.

My buddy asked me if there was a way to mod his carbon copy so that the delay knob could be foot controlled - and not like a tap tempo, but rather a crybaby type pedal.

My assumption is that it would be possible.  Can you guys share your input on my assumptions?

-  Obtain a crybaby (or other volume/wah pedal) enclosure and remove all the guts.
-  swap out the internal pot to have a similar/same value as the delay pot in the carbon copy delay pedal.
-  Remove the carbon copy delay pot and in its place put some sort of a cable jack, such as a standard output jack - or assuming space is an issue a mini 1/8'' jack or maybe even something smaller that I dont know about?  I assume radio shack or other electrical suplliers sell super small two conductor jacks...

- install same jack  in crybaby housing

Would it be that easy?  simple patch cord to connect the two?

Buy a Tone in Progress Third Hand ( http://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/pedals/tip.php ).  That way he can control whatever he wants, be it Carbon Copy or any other pedal, and all his pedals get to remain stock and retain resale value.

We've had discussion after discussion about that for the last decade and a half.  It IS possible, but there is some demanding machining required, and the tension/torque of the cable used is important.  Quite frankly, this is one of those instances where one is really better off buying one, unless you already have all the requisite tools and machining skills.

I used to have one of the original EHX Hot Foot pedals that the Third Hand is modelled after.  Although the Third Hand dramatically improves upon some of the shortcoming of the Hot Foot, I still can't say enough good things about the basic principle.

Sounds like the $79.95 price is the best bet for me!  Thanks.

Couldn't one replace the entrails of a standard wah, and repace it with a similar pot as the delay? And just have the wires that go to the delay-pot (in the pedal) go to a jack and use the wah to turn the delaypot like an EXP-pedal?

I find it funny how I can have close to 1000 components, yet I never seem to have enough parts to make a project. :icon_eek:

Wouldn't the impedence come into play with that method? Maybe the remote way idea could work here...

I don't know how much space is spare in the carbon copy but my idea would be to try and fit a marshall type stereo switched jack socket.

1. Remove the connections from the pot to the pcb, then connect the pot to the 3 poles on the 1/4 marshall style socket (swiched side), then the other 3 pins on the jack to the corresponding pcb    points. This will leave the pot connected as normal when no jack is plugged in. When a jack is plugged in the pot will be disconnected from the pcb.

2. An old wah casing with the same value pot as the carbon copy pot wired directly to the terminals of a stereo jack socket. Then all you need is a 1/4 stereo lead to join the two together.

Using this method you can use the carbon copy seperate  and as normal on its own, or control it with the wah enclosure when its connected.

This all depends if you can fit the jack socket into the carbon copy though.
