I was checking out my BBE Free Fuzz, and it appears to be similar to a silicon Fuzz Face.  It sounds like crap, and I checked the bias voltage on Q2 and it is nowhere near what it should be.  So, I'm thinking of putting in a trimpot for the bias on at least one trannie.  By the way, the trannies are marked "550B", any idea what this would be?   I'm thinking maybe BC550B or something.

The board has values for the caps, the output cap seems to be an .022uf.  Anyone try messing with the bias on this thing?  Before I strain my eyes trying to figure out which are the bias resistors, has anyone located them yet?  The resistors are numbered on the board.

Another question, there is a small ceramic cap in the circuit, which is marked "loop".  Any idea what that would be?

The volume pot is a 250k, the fuzz pot is a 2k.  The electrolytics seem to be regular FF values.  I'd think this thing could be made to sound better with a couple of tweaks, hoping someone has beat me to it and can help here, or else I'll get out the magnifying glass and figure out what is what.

Thanks for any help,
Al

By the way, I did a search and in an old post it said someone recommended yanking that ceramic cap to make it sound better, it's the one I referred to that says "loop" next to it on the board.  Sure would like to know what it is before I lift it.

Well, I guess no one has gotten into one of these yet, since there are no responses.  I thought someone would have, as there were a bunch of them sold when GC had them for $29!  Guess I'm on my own, I'll post a report if I get some results.

Well, if it's a Silicon FF it should be fairly simple to look at the back of the board and find out what the cap is connected to.  Do that, tell us where it is in the circuit and what value it is, and somebody can tell you what it's doing.

If somebody makes a mistake, help them understand what went wrong.  Show them how to do it right.  Be helpful.  Don't just say "you're wrong, moron."
