Got mine today (125K linear taper), they aren't any help as far as making a crybaby into an expression pedal. They didn't take into account that the crybaby rack doesn't rotate the pot the regular ~270 degrees, it rotates it less, so you'd need a special wafer that has the full resistance in a shorter area.  Mine had a resistance of 110K, and with the heal back at 0 ohms, toe down only turned the pot up to 84K.

If one was desparate, you could dissassemble the pot and use conductive paint on the wafer, to short out the rest of the resistance, and get an ~84K pot. I may do that.

Don't know the brand, they're open, not sealed, like the 24mm alpha pots, but the shell is silver.

Sounds like the same thing as the Fulltone pots. The Fulltone pot that I have in my possession isn't anything more than an inexpensive Alpha type pot with some kind of special taper. I would expect it to wear out very quickly if used a lot.

Tip: You can get a little more range out of the CryBaby shell if you remove the rubber bumpers.

I bought the 8th one down on the below url  (blue ones)
Don't buy them if you want an  "S" Taper, because these are linear.  Crap I bought 2 of them.  I need the S taper.  OH Well
I will use them in my own projects.

ps anyone know where to get the "S" Taper ones for Vox Wah?

I found this  :
http://www.voxampsusa.com/Vox/items.asp?CartId={A88E85EF-08DF-41F2-93F9-E75DE30D16CFEVEREST}&Cc=Parts%5FV&Bc=

$41.33  This is an insane price!

Has anyone taken the original HOT POTZ I  apart to clean them, if so, how in the heck do you accomplish this?   They crimp the case, not sure how to get around this.

Thanks!

"S" taper them with two resistors: see The Secret Life of Pots, Geofex.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I read that article before, this time I read it two more times and I must say,  I just don't get what to do?

Thanks for your concern tho.

Put a resistor from hot/cw to wiper and from wiper to cold/CCW both. This forces BOTH ends of the travel to be electrically tapered, making an S taper.

Well, the "Blacktop" ICAR taper pot that is around is supposed to be a copy of the original RMC ICAR clone (it's a clone of a clone!), and it is 200k.  Geoffrey said that his was a copy of an old ICAR he had, so maybe those original ICAR's were not 100k.  I have one of those 200k ICAR copies in my Vox 847, and it works fine.  I have a feeling that it must not make a big difference, I think the taper is more important.

Al

i have one from ebay and one from smallbear labeled 100k, both labeled ICAR and I like the 100k from small bear much better, the sweep doesn't go too low.

I tried out one of the two that I purchased in my vox wah and it was staticy (sp or not a word) at times and then some times it would sound like when you plug your guitar cord in your guitar when the other end is plugged into a live amp.   Really bad!!!!!!
I will be ordering one from SmallBear!

Peace,
