I build a SHO from Andy's vero layout tonight. The pair of input resistors are 2.2M, everything else is as listed on the layout.

I'm not getting anywhere near the amount of volume I expected. The tone seems to change as I turn the pot, but there's not real boost. It's a little quieter than unity. There is crackle on the 5k pot as well as the guitar's volume pot. I socketed the mosfet, so I tried a few of them. It's the same deal with them all. I've read everything I can find about the circuit and I'm still stumped!

I was getting no voltage to the board when the battery was in and a cable was completing the circuit in the input jack.  I had the V- and the input switched on the input jack.  WHOOPS!
