How about if we make a list of the different names for one tube? I've experienced problems finding certain tubes, because different dealer deal with different names. Does such a list exist allready?

I can start, and update the first post so one doesn't have to read the entire thread to find what he/she is looking for.

I find it funny how I can have close to 1000 components, yet I never seem to have enough parts to make a project. :icon_eek:

Aha, the old US-European-Military cross-reference thing, eh?
You can find those in the backs of most tube reference books or the Tube Substitution handbook (I wish I still had that) but I'll post a few:
12AX7-ECC83-5751-7025
6L6GC-KT66-EL37-5881-7581A
6CA7-EL34-KT77
6BQ5-EL84-7189
KT88-6550-7027
6V6-5871-7184

That's all I have off the top of my head (some may not be exact).

A 5751 is not another version of the 12AX7 per se.  It has a mu of 70 while the 12AX7 has a mu of 100.  It's rumored to be the tube SRV used n place of the 12AX7's to get "his" sound.

I think those rumors are right... anyway, 12ax7 has too much mu factor, I would use 12at7.

Attention! El34 are pentodes (so thin body 6CA7's, similar to EL34), KT77 are tetrodes (so big fat 6l6 type body 6CA7's)

To clarify: True 6CA7s are Beam forming Tetrodes while EL34s are Pentodes even though they are pin for pin compatible and identical in application, but they DO sound a bit different.

I can't tell you how much time I spend there.  It's sad that sometimes  I will read through random data sheets just for fun.

I was kinda wondering about that...
Like I said, most of this was off the top of my head with some help from Google and the GE Essential Characteristics book.
