Well, I'm taking the advice to start over on my Dr. Boogey, but I need some J201s so I gotta buy more. So I thought why not buy another set of parts for another pedal while I'm at it, and then remembered that my friend is interested in an equalizer stompbox (he doesn't like distortion pedals, understandable).  I remembered the Tonemender and Mr. EQ from RunOffGroove and would like to know which one responds the best or which do you prefer.  And if you've built one of them I'd like to hear what you got to say about it.

thanks :)

Well I can't comment on the Tonemender (never built one) but I have built the Mr.EQ.  The cool thing about the pedal is the way the eq sets up a range over certain frequencies on the guitar.  In other words one toggle (lower freq) only effects the lower strings.  The middle toggle effects the frequencies of the middle strings.  And the third toggle really only sets the frequencies of the high strings.  Having said that the pedal is useful when trying to get certain frequecies (or strings) to cut through in the mix.  Keep in mind this means if a bass is used which has no high frequency strings the third and middle toggles may not have much effect if any.  But used on a guitar I find this eq stompbox very versatile and yet subtle in a good way.

I love the tonemender, it is very flexible and can get a very wide range sounds.  It is a must in my mind.

Question for Brian.  Which dual op amp did you use on your Tonemender?

brrrrrr, both effects sounds good.....

btw, does this work  on the distortion channel on an amp, or would it totally have no effect and best to be used after a distortion pedal?

it's useful to have EQ both pre and post distortion. Pre EQ-ing can change pickup frequency response and post eq-ing changes distortion character. I don't recommend mr eq for pre eq-ing because it's not very subtle. You can't tweak pickup response with it. It's better to use it after dist IMO...

I guess I'll go with the tonemender then, thanks for your help!
