why are old threads missing so many "attached schematics??

often i use the search function and go through GREAT threads from, say, 2005.

But the sad thing is, many of these threads are missing 90 percent of their old images.

so someone will go on and on about a schematic which no longer is part of the thread.

"below is my new schematic that does....."

and then there is just a blank space ;(


many times i try messaging the people to get the images, but this only works part of the time.

any thoughts on why these embedded images disappear?

I think it's because many of the images posted are hosted on locations other than the way cool repository provided by Aaron. I'm betting that some of these locations have closed up or the URLs are no longer valid.

It especially seems to be photo bucket hosted pic's, did they go tits up or what?
I agree though, very disappointing to loose all those great threads, which are now almost impossible to understand.

I use Photobucket to host all my stuff. Photobucket is huge and will hopefully be around for a thousand years. I think maybe the missing images is people deleting stuff from their hosting accounts.

things disappear if you move the folders that your stuff is in.

a few times in haste, i will upload to the top folder, post and then decide to file it in a photobucket folder.

but don't worry, if its anything important, its posted here, and I make sure to correct links, or leave them be.
